英検1級二次試験スピーチサンプル９「アレルギー患者数の増加を懸念すべき？」

「英検1級二次試験に一発合格したMBAホルダーが公開するスピーチサンプルシリーズ」です。

今回のお題はこれです。

Is the increasing number of allergy sufferers a cause for concern?
（アレルギー患者数の増加を懸念すべき？）

今回は医療系の質問です。

私はこの手の医療系のテーマが苦手なので、試験本番なら絶対に避けるところですが、練習ではあえて取り組んでみるのもよいことです。

アレルギー患者が増加しているという事実は、懸念すべきか否か？という質問です。今回は「イエス」と答えてみます。というのも、「No.懸念する必要はない」と答えるためには医学の知識が必要になるからです。

アレルギー患者の増加を懸念すべき根拠には何があるでしょうか。

まず大まかにいえるのは、アレルギー患者の増加は単なる表面的な現象にすぎず、実は背景にはもっと深刻な問題が進行しているのでは？ということです。

たとえば、アレルギー患者が増えているということは、人類の身体が弱くなっているのが理由かもしれません。ほうっておくと、アレルギー患者の増加よりももっと深刻な問題が発生するかもしれません。

もう一つ考えられるのは、アレルギー患者が増えているのは、環境破壊が進行しているからかもしれません。たとえば、花粉症の患者が増えています。これは、都会の道路がコンクリートやアスファルトで敷き詰められているために、山林からくるスギ花粉が土に吸収されることなく、アスファルトの上を滑って都会の中心まで到達するからだという説を聞いたことがあります。

この２つのネタを元にスピーチを作ってみます。


Is the increasing number of allergy sufferers a cause for concern?

My answer to this question is yes. The increasing number of allergy sufferers is a cause for concern. We should identify reasons why the number of allergy sufferers is increasing and take appropriate actions. I assume that there are several background behind the increasing allergy sufferers.

One of the reasons is a weakening human body. Our life styles have changed over the decades. We exercise less and eat more. We eat a lot of processed foods with ingredients which are not good for our body. These life styles changes weakened our body, thus led to the increasing number of allergy sufferers. If our body weakens even more, we may have more serious problems than allergy in the future.

Another reason for the increasing number of allergy sufferers is changes in environments. For example, a number of people have allergy of pollen (powders produced by trees and flowers). One of the reasons is that nowadays almost all roads are covered with concrete and asphalt in the cities. So, pollen can reach to a center of a city from a mountain forest. If a city has roads that are not covered by asphalt, pollen would be caught by soil and it would not come to a center of city. If we keep changing our environment even more, more serious issue than pollen allergy may happen.

From these reasons, I believe that the increasing number of allergy is a cause for concern. Thank you for your attention.

やはり苦手な分野のスピーチは稚拙で説得力の弱いものになってしまいます。。。
英語力と同時に様々な分野の教養も身につけないといけないと痛感しました。
