Should democratic nations cut diplomatic relations with nondemocratic nations?
（民主国は非民主国と外交関係を絶つべき？）
今回はこの質問に「Yes」と答えてみます。
民主国家が非民主国家との外交関係を断ち切るべきと言う根拠にはなにがあるでしょうか。
一つは、経済的メリットがほとんどないことが理由になると思います。独裁国家では、独裁者だけ豊かで国民は貧しいため中間層が存在せず、国内消費の規模はとても小さいです。また、産業が育っていないため、独裁国家では私たちが輸入したいような製品を作っていません。ミサイルと麻薬が主な輸出製品だったりします。独裁国家は貿易相手国として魅力的ではありません。
もう一つは、非民主国との外交関係を維持するのはリスクが大きいということです。民主国家と独裁国家では、思想信条、意志決定プロセスが全く違います。彼らと外交関係を持つと、彼らのルール無用のやり方に振り回されることになりそうです。
以上の２つの根拠を元に、スピーチを考えてみましょう。

In my opinion, democrat nations should cut diplomatic relations with nondemocratic nations. Let me show you some reasons why I think so.
Firstly, the benefit from the relationships with nondemocratic nations would be very small. In general, nondemocratic nations do not have enough domestic demands or industries. Thus, they are not attractive as a economic partners. We can not export so much to them, or import attractive products from them, because they do not have developed industry. Therefore, I believe that there is not enough merit in relation with them.
Secondly, retaining relationships with them may be risky for us. Nondemocratic countries' ideology, principle, decision making process are totally different from ours. Also, they do not hesitate to ignore the international rules made by democratic countries. Thus it is very difficult to discuss with them to reach a certain agreement and build better relationships with them.
From these reasons, I concluded that we, democratic countries, should cut relations with nondemocratic nations. Thank you for your attention.
正直この質問に「イエス。独裁国家との外交関係は絶つべき。」と答えるのは骨が折れます。外交関係を維持しつつ、相手国がよくなっていくことを支援する、というのが私たち民主国家の役割だと思うからです。
とはいえ、自分の本当の意見と違う立場をあえてとって、ロジックを考えるのは頭の体操になります。
欧米の子供たちはこのディベートの訓練を小学校の頃から繰り返し受けます。日本でも、同様の施策が望まれます。
