英検１級二次試験スピーチサンプル15「製薬会社は新興国に医薬品を安価で提供すべき？」

今回のお題はこれです。

Should drag companies provide medicines cheaply to developing countries?
(製薬会社は新興国に医薬品を安価で提供すべき？)

この質問に「Yes」と答えるスピーチを作ってみます。

なぜ、新興国に医薬品を安価で提供すべきでしょうか？

まずストレートな理由として、新興国の人たちが健康になって寿命が伸びるのは良い事ですよね。健康で長生きする人が増えれば、活き活きと働いて消費する人が増えます。そうすれば、その国の経済状態は良くなるはずです。新興国の経済発展は、まわりまわって先進国の経済にもプラスの効果をもたらします。

他に考えられるのは、新興国との関係が良好になるということです。良好な関係を構築できれば、新興国の資源を安く輸入できるようになるかもしれません。なにしろ新興国と先進国の関係がよくなることは世界平和につながります。

これらのネタをもとに英語スピーチを書いてみます。

I think that drug companies should provide medicines cheaply to developing countries. Let me show you the reasons why I think so.

The first reason is that, by providing medicine cheaply to developing countries, we can improve the health condition of developing countries and make their life duration longer, which will boost the economy of developing countries. Economic growth of developing countries will have positive impact on global economy including developed countries. That is why providing medicines to developing countries will bring benefit to us in developed countries.

Secondly, we in developed countries could build good relationship with those in developing countries by providing medicines cheaply to them, which will lead to the peace of the world. Nowadays, income disparity between rich countries and poor countries is getting wider and wider. Thus, poor countries may not have a good feeling about rich countries. Rich countries should help poor countries and try to establish good relationships with them. Also, it is expected that developing countries thank us for providing medicine cheaply and they may provide us with their products such as natural resources cheaply. This will be benefits for developed countries.

From these reasons, I believe that drug companies should provide medicine cheaply to developing countries. Thank you for your attention.

書いた後で気がつきましたが、先進国が新興国へ医薬品を安く提供する理由にはなっていますが、「私企業がなぜ安く医薬品を提供しなければならないか」について触れていませんでした。

このスピーチを本番の面接で喋ったばあい、質疑応答で「企業にとっては負担ではありませんか？」などの質問が飛んでくる事でしょう。「国が製薬企業をサポートすべき」とか、「製薬企業には企業イメージを向上できるというメリットがある」とかの回答をするとよいでしょう。

完璧で、ロジックのモレが全くないスピーチを１分間で考える事なんて不可能です。多少脇が甘いスピーチになってもよいのでとにかく２分間しゃべって、あとは質疑応答で補足すれば英検１級二次試験は合格できます。
