英検1級二次試験スピーチサンプル11「ワーキングプアをもっと援助すべきか？」その2

「英検1級二次試験に一発合格したMBAホルダーが公開するスピーチサンプルシリーズ」です。

今回のお題はこれです。

Should more be done to help the working poor?
（ワーキングプアをもっと援助すべきか？）

前回はこの質問に「Yes」と答えました。

今回は「No。援助する必要なし」と主張してみます（心苦しいですが）。

ワーキングプアを援助してはならない理由にはなにがあるでしょうか。

まず、あまり手厚く援助しすぎると、スポイルしてしまう可能性があります。たとえは、収入の不足を補助してあげると、それに甘えてしまい、自分で収入を増やす努力をするインセンティブを失ってしまいます。

また、手厚い援助は国民間の不公平につながりかねません。頑張って勉強しスキルを身につけてやっと十分な収入を得た人の税金が、スキル獲得を怠けた人の援助に使われる、という事態になってしまったら、「勉強や仕事をしない方がまし」という国になってしまいます。

以上のネタを元に、英語スピーチを創ってみます。

I do not think that more should be done to help working poor. I believe that some problems will happen if we would do too much to help the working poor.

Firstly, the working poor may be spoiled if too much supports are provided. For example, if government gives money to working poor, they would lose their motivation to make effort by themselves to increase their income. They will stop learning and training and just rely on supports from government.

Secondly, too much supports for the working poor will lead to unfairness. Many people have been studying hard and working hard, and they are earning money and paying tax. If government spends too much for helping the working poor, tax payers may feel that if is unfair.

From these reasons, my conclusion is that we should not do too much to help the working poor. Of course, necessary supports should be provided, but too much supports would not be good for the working poor and tax payers.

上記は私の本心ではないことを申し添えます。

ワーキングプアを援助すべきでない、という主張をするのは、なんとなく良心がとがめますが、そこをこらえてロジックを考えてみることも、ロジカルシンキングやディベートの練習になります。
