英検１級二次試験スピーチサンプル12「民主国は非民主国と外交関係を絶つべき？」

「英検1級二次試験に一発合格したMBAホルダーが公開するスピーチサンプルシリーズ」です。


今回のお題はこれです。

Should democratic nations cut diplomatic relations with nondemocratic nations?
（民主国は非民主国と外交関係を絶つべき？）

以前の記事で、この命題に「Yes」と答えましたので、今回は「No」と主張してみます。

まず、「非民主国家との外交関係を立つべきではない、関係を維持すべきだ。」と主張するための根拠を考えます。

根拠としてまず一つ言えるのは、関係を維持しておかないと、非民主国家が変なことを始めた時に、警告したりというコミュニケーションの方法がなくなってしまうということです。

もうひとつ言えるのは、私達民主国家の人間は、民主主義を広める使命があると言う事です。非民主国家が虐げられている国民を救うためにも、民主主義を広めることは私達の使命です。

これらの材料で英語スピーチを創ってみます。

結論→理由１→理由２→再び結論

というパターンが鉄則です。

If asked this question, I would answer by saying, “Democratic nation should not cut diplomatic relations with non democratic nations.” Let me show you the reasons why I think so.

One of the reasons why I think so is that democratic nations need to watch nondemocratic nations` actions in order to keep the peace of the world. When we find suspicious actions taken by non democratic nations, we have to try to stop them. For this sake, we need to keep the line of communication open with them. Thus we need to retain diplomatic relations with them.

Secondly, as one of democratic countries, we have a very important mission to spread democracy all over the world. In order to let nondemocratic nations change their principals, we need to communicate with them from a long term point of view. To achieve our goal, we need to retain diplomatic relations with non democratic countries and keep negotiating with them.

From these reasons, I believe that we should not cut diplomatic relations with non democratic nations. Thank you for your attention.

本当はもう少し中身の濃いスピーチを書きたいのですが、即興でなるべく早く書くと、思うようにいきません。
